CJ-6 airscrew primary trainer, deployed in PLA airforce and civilian pilot training center for very long time, is still the main primary trainer of China. CJ-6 is designed by Nanchang Airplane Company since Jul 1957, first fly in Aug 1958, finalized in Jan 1962 and became a batch production after half a year. The prototype was equiped with a Czech engine and fans. The batch version use HS-6 engine, 198.5kw output. Radio set and navigation set is added on CJ-6
The variation of CJ-6 includes CJ-6A, CJ-6B and "Salangane" agro-plane. The CJ-6A came out to solve the big problem of the prototype, which suffered from the engine and fans. As a low speed airscrew plane, CJ-6 is not some kind of hi-tech thing, but it flys savely, has strong fuselage, easy to control. The takeoff range distance is just 280m and 350m landing. CJ-6`s operation costs very little money, which fits for a primary trainer and sports plane.
According to these advantages, many CJ-6s have been deployed from 60s` to this day. In USA some airplane fans even buy themselves second hand CJ-6 for fun. The photoes below show these planes with the intrinsic body painting.
