Event ideas

Have you put together an L-bird event? What kinds of things have you done at the event. What were the crowd favorites? How can we better showcase the L-birds and make it interesting for the general public?

Flower bombing, message drops, landing competitions, mock observation missions, etc. All fun for pilots, not sure about the crouds.

We've traditionally held a flour bombing contest as well as a spot landing contest. The flour bombing is generally popular with the crowd. The landing is ok - if they can see what's going on. We usually also have an "ambulance pickup" where we load a dummy into the L-5's rear compartment.
I'd really like to come up with some other ideas.

You can take a look at the events page on our website (www.ArmyWingsAndWheels.com) for some ideas. Our reenactors will hold three mock battles during the weekend. We have a combination of a narrated liaison aircraft demonstration and vehicle review (parade). I can send you last years demo outline. We try to integrate the reenactors/vehicles/airplanes as much as possible. They were built to support the AGF, and that is what we try to get across to the public. In addition we hold a mission driven flight competition for the pilots who want to participate. I found that not all aircraft owners are comfortable with this and decline. The ones that do participate give us lots of positive feedback. Awards are given for the various events such as spot landing/message drop/etc.
